Though Soboba’s fire station is about complete, construction crews are beginning work on a gas station and entertainment center across the street from the station as part of the tribe’s push to attract customers.ĭown the street, a health clinic in collaboration with Riverside-San Bernardino County Indian Health, Inc., is proposed to serve the reservation, Soboba spokesman Mike Hiles said. A similar truck, owned by a different department, was at the Pechanga fire Monday, June 3. If a similar blaze were to break out at Soboba’s 480,000-square-foot resort, Salmo said, the new hook-and-ladder truck would be useful because of its long ladder. Crews from several departments - including Soboba - were dispatched to the fire. The station’s opening comes days after an elevator fire at the Pechanga Resort and Casino near Temecula injured three people. The construction cost was not available Thursday, June 6, Salmo said.
The station, situated half a mile down Soboba Road from the casino, is close to both the resort and the San Jacinto Valley in a reasonable time, Salmo added. “The addition will be a good complement to strengthen our valley’s fire protection,” he said.
